How to Knit the “Arthur” Baby Blanket

***You can purchase an INEXPENSIVE AD-FREE PDF of this pattern on Ravelry HERE or Etsy HERE***

Meet Arthur! A snuggly knitted blanket with a clean and modern grid pattern created using just knit and purl stitches. I think I’ve definitely found my favourite type of knitted blanket as these illusion blankets bring me so much joy to knit. I hope you enjoy knitting them as much as I do 🙂

Its no secret that I avoid complicated projects that require me to concentrate and think when I’m knitting, I have the ability, but I find them tedious and stressful – so simple, modern patterns are what you’ll find in my little corner of the internet.

yarn and sizing tips & tricks

I’ve chosen DK (aka Double Knitting, Light Worsted, 3 Weight) yarn for this project, but don’t let that stop you from knitting it in your own preferred weight of yarn. You will just need to adjust your cast on and number of repeats you work to accommodate the change in weight of yarn.

My instructions produce a baby blanket approximately 60cm x 80cm, but for those of you wanting to adjust this size, it can easily be done using the pattern multiple of 8+4 for the middle panel, and an additional 18 stitches for the garter stitch edging.

Materials Needed

  • 4mm Circular Needs (to recreate this blanket 80cm is a perfect length)
  • 400g of DK Yarn – I used Stylecraft Bambino in Little Boy Blue
  • Scissors & Tapestry Needle for sewing in ends
  • 2 Stitch Markers

Written Pattern

Stiches Used

  • k – knit
  • p – purl
  • sl1pwyf – slip one purlwise with yarn in front.
  • Pm – place marker
  • Sm – slip marker

  1. Olá!
Depois de pesquisar muito eu achei a sua receita, foi a mais linda na minha opinião.
    Parabéns pelo seu trabalho!

  2. I love this pattern. I would love to make this an adult size blanket. I know you explained in the text the numbers of increase. Could you please give me idea of your suggested number of stitches that would make this pattern work for a larger project for an adult.
    Thank you in advance.

    1. It would entirely depend on the yarn and needles you’re using, I would suggest sitting down and thinking what width you want and then going from there.

  3. Thank you, this pattern looks wonderful. I’m going to try and knit this using straight needles with two colours, yellow and green. Any suggestions on where/how to split the colours please?

  4. How can I knit this baby blanket as a adult blanket or throw. Please can someone give me pattern details?

    Thanks,
    Bleu

    1. You will just need to increase the amount of stitches you cast on using the pattern multiple I’ve given to increase the width, and then work more repeats until the blanket is the length you want it to be.

  5. There is a link to the pattern, for purchase, on etsy and Ravelry, but the links don’t work. Is there some place where I can purchase the pattern?

    1. I’ve just tested the links and they work for me – I am SnufflebeanYarn on both Etsy and Ravelry so you should find me by searching if the links aren’t working for you.

    1. I’ve sold some, and gifted a couple of others but the vast majority are folded up neatly on a shelf in my office 🙂
