How to Knit a Striped Mitred Square
Learn how to level up your mitred squares by knitting this funky striped version. These squares add a pop of colour and interest to any Mitred Square project.
If videos are more your thing, then I’ve left a link to the YouTube Tutorial at the bottom of this page.
Stitches Used:
- k – knit
- ssk – slip slip knit
- k2tog – knit two together
How to Change Colour:
To change colour, lift the colour yarn you want to change to OVER the current working yarn from underneath, this will twist the two yarns together creating a neat join. See Video Tutorial for clarification.
Written Pattern:
Cast on Row: Using your preferred cast on method (I use long-tail cast on), cast on an EVEN number of stitches.
Row 1: Knit half your stitches, place stitch marker, knit remaining stitches. Turn
Row 2 [CHANGE YARN COLOUR]: Knit to 2 stitches before marker, k2tog, slip marker, ssk, knit remaining stiches. Turn
Rest of Square: Repeat rows 1 & 2 until 2 stitches remain. Remembering to alternate your colours at the beginning of each Row 2.
Final Row: k2tog, break yarn and pull tail through, sew in ends.
