Crochet the Drunken Granny Stitch – Great for Scarves!
The Drunken Granny Stitch is a fun variation of the traditional granny stripe pattern, with its quirky asymmetrical rows, it gives interest to scarves and blankets alike. It’s an easy one row repeat, and works brilliantly in either solid colours or stripes.

Foundation Chain:
- chain a multiple of 5 + 4
Row 1:
- Into 6th ch from hook work 3dc, ch2, dc.
- *skip 4ch and work 3dc, ch2, dc* into next ch.
- Repeat from *to* until 3 ch remain
- Skip 2ch, work dc into final ch.
Row 2 (Repeat Row):
- ch3. TURN.
- work *3dc, ch2, 1dc* into 1st ch2 gap from previous row.
- Repeat *to* into every chain 2 gap from previous row.
- Work dc into top of turning chain from previous row.
Repeat Row 2 until your project is complete. If you wish to change colour then finish last dc with new colour and then carry on as per the pattern.
Optional Finishing Row:
- Ch2. Turn
- Work ss into ch2 gap from row below.
- *ch4, work ss into next ch2 gap*
- Repeat from *to* until no ch2 gaps remain.
- ch2, work ss into top of turning chain from row below.
