How to Knit the “Hannah” Baby Blanket [Free Video Tutorial & Written Pattern!]

The “Hannah” Baby Blanket combines garter stitch, with a textured panel. This is one of my favourite ways of constructing a blanket as the strips of garter stitch that separate the textured panel give a really nice rhythmic feel to the knitting and the design always seems to fly off my needles that bit quicker.
This blanket design incorporates a textured panel that harks back to my In Fours Baby Blanket, and uses stripes of garter stitch as separation – a technique I’ve used in several other baby blankets (Harvey, Taylor and Toby are good examples of this). Although it’s a 20 row repeat, its far from complex to master which makes it perfect for an advanced beginner to tackle.
yarn and sizing tips & tricks
I’ve chosen DK (aka Double Knitting, Light Worsted, 3 Weight) yarn for this project, but don’t let that stop you from knitting it in your own preferred weight of yarn. You will just need to adjust your cast on and number of repeats you work to accommodate the change in weight of yarn.
My instructions produce a Blanket approximately 60cm x 80cm, but for those of you wanting to adjust this size, it can easily be done using the pattern multiple of 4+2 for the middle textured panel, and then an additional 18 stitches (9 for each side) for the garter stitch edging.

I have just enjoyed knitting this blanket. Each repeat was done in a different colour. I knitted the lower edge, one pattern repeat and four rows of the garter stitch border in one colour and then changed colour on a right side facing row of garter stitch, knitting two rows, the next pattern repeat and 4 rows of garter stitch for each separate colour. The top edge was knitted in the same colour as the last pattern repeat.
I’m enjoying knitting this blanket, I’m up to 3×20 rows so far,and it is starting to look lovely.
I’m doing it in Aran wool, mainly because I like thing’s to grow quickly and get the end result.
