How to Knit Spiral Diagonal Rib Stitch [Free Video Tutorial & Written Pattern!]

The Spiral Diagonal Rib Stitch creates a diagonal ribbing with a lovely spiral effect. This stitch pattern is similar to diagonal rib stitch but has a deeper ribbed effect, and the illusion of spiral columns created by the way the stitches are placed.

At 18 rows this stitch pattern is not a short one to knit, but the effect it gives is really worth that extra counting the longer repeat requires!

Diagonal Spiral Rib Stitch is fully reversible, that means that it looks identical on both sides, the only difference being the direction the diagonal spirals run in. This makes it great for projects that need to look good on both sides!

I think this stitch pattern would work really well as a scarf, the diagonal spirals not only look good but they create a cosy, soft texture that would feel wonderful neon as a scarf.

You could of course incorporate this stitch pattern into a bigger project like a blanket, and combining it with a simple garter stitch edging produce a really great great reversible baby blanket.
